The rest of 2004 and the
year 2005 were great. Stacey got to about 40kg in weight and had never been so healthy.
She enjoyed trips to the Zoo, farm and local attractions we went to see some
shows too and generally had a great time socializing.
Her 22nd birthday was the
usual celebrations with family and friends sharing the day.
At about this time we
had started to introduce a new Epilepsy drug to Stacey's regime and slowly started to
reduce one of her others. September 1st 2005 was Stacey's last seizure and we were amazed
and delighted that the new regime seems to really suit her.
With Stacey's weight
gain and general well being we decided it was about time we had the bungalow adapted to
best meet Stacey's needs. A wet room was created and tracking hoist and changing table
installed.
Christmas 2005 was great, we all had a wonderful family time and we
saw in the New Year
.. 2006.
In March 2006, Stacey's tummy became hard
and swollen suddenly and it soon became obvious that she was in tremendous pain so she
was rushed up to the local hospital. She was seen by a consultant and later had a CT scan
which revealed that she had a Caecal Volvulus, a twisted bowel and had to have emergency
surgery, all in the space of 11 hours.
The surgeon said she was lucky to be alive
as her bowel was about to rupture when they operated. They performed a right hemi -
colectomy and primary anastomosis, which meant a 1/3rd of her large bowel and some of her
small bowel, had to be removed.
Stacey spent about 3 days in ICU and it was so
scary to see her like that but she amazed everyone with her recovery, she was in hospital
less than two weeks which was unbelievable, Sadly her seizures have started again but we
hope that once she recovers from her operation and gets her drug levels back up to normal
that they will be better controlled.
Now she is on the road to recovery
..
Again! We feel like we have been here before but we are taking things at Stacey's pace
and giving her lots of TLC. |
