December 2003 and we had
a few days in London. It was great fun and we went on the London Eye, we went to see the
Lion King Stage Show, which was fantastic, we did a few other tourist things! Stacey was
really good and seemed to really enjoy her few days away.
We didn't have a very
good Christmas as we all got flu and it took us a while to get over it. Stacey didn't
start 2004 well and unfortunately her ill health continued. She developed one infection
after another and spent more time at home than in the day centre. She started to slowly
lose weight as she became poorly more often than she was well and it became quite a
concern for us. It all came to a head in early June when the GP decided the time had come
to get to the bottom of Stacey's continuing weight loss and constant infections.
After a week of tests it was arranged for Stacey to be tube fed through an NG
tube. Stacey tolerated it far better than I thought she would but it irritated her
immensely.
About a week later she was taken down to have a PEG feeding tube fitted
into her tummy. It was a permanent solution that would enable us to administer her drugs,
fluid and nutrition in the future. She was still able to eat Orally if she
wished.
After a 3-week stay in hospital she was home and soon we began to feel
more confident about the new regime.
July 16th 2004 Stacey's 21st Birthday.
Stacey woke up all smiles as we sang Happy Birthday to her. She got an incredible
76 birthday cards and lots of lovely gifts. We had a gentle stream of visitors over a
3-day period. We delayed her 21st Party until the 31st July to give us a little more time
to organise it. Party day arrived and the official celebrations for Stacey's 21st began!
We shared a lovely day with lots of special people. Stacey loved all the attention that
was lavished on her.
What a journey we had all been on to get to 21! It exhausts
me to just think about it. But we did
it
