16th July 2002 we
celebrated Stacey's 19th birthday. She had a great day and looked radiant. We planned
Stacey's final assembly at school, when she would be presented with all her records of
achievements and photographs of the 15 years in front of the whole school, but on the
morning, just as we were leaving home Stacey had a bad seizure and later that day ended
up in casualty and an over night stay in hospital. It wasn't the way we had planned.
There was a 3 month gap before Stacey moved into adult day services so we took
advantage of the time and went to see lots of shows, visited zoo's and farms, did lots of
shopping and we had plenty of pub lunches! She had a great time and thrived on all the
excitement and stimulation.
Stacey settled really well into the adult day
services, she loved the more laid back approach with all the community based activities.
The staff worked hard to make her transition as easy as possible.
Stacey's main
problem now is her continued physical deterioration and her epilepsy is still causing us
some concerns, so much so that Stacey now has Oxygen at her bedside and also on her
wheelchair to support her recovery from the seizures. She has also developed a new
breathing abnormality to add to the 7 she already had!
2003 and Stacey is 20! She
has gone through so much in her life and you have to admire her strength and
determination. To suffer like she has yet still come up smiling. She is very special, Our
Stace
