Stacey enjoyed her 18th
birthday party, surrounded by her family and some very special friends.
18 was a
bit of a milestone really, there had been times when we wondered if our beautiful
daughter would ever make it! The last few years had been so bad that it often felt like
we where in a big black tunnel struggling to find our way out. The feeling of utter
hopelessness and desperation were at times, quite overpowering.
But soon after
the birthday party Stacey began to improve both physically and emotionally. She seemed
stronger and didn't cry when we moved her. She started to laugh again and her face would
light up when she smiled, she had definitely got her sparkle back. This made such a
difference to us. The feeling of panic we often felt was slowly starting to subside. We
had got our old Stacey back, and the relief was overwhelming.
September 2001 and
Stacey began her final year at school. She has been there almost 15 years and it has been
an important part of not only Stacey's life but also ours. Her first day was terrifying
and her last is going to be even worse, as she enters adult services.
