My Life
Story - page two
| Stacey's
first year was pretty uneventful as far as we and the medical professionals were
concerned. Stacey was a normal baby reaching all her milestones. We felt so lucky to have
such a beautiful normal baby. |

At 15 months
Stacey shocked us by having a febrile convulsion and this was the beginning of a long
nightmare for us all. |
| After the convulsion Stacey
didn't seem to learn any new skills and as the months passed her development delay became
more and more obvious. She began to scream day and night and vomited all the time. She
didn't want any physical contact and was really withdrawn and extremely unhappy. Life was
really difficult, we felt so totally inadequate as parents as no matter what we did she
just rejected us. |
| At the age of
two Stacey was referred to the hospital and we were told that she was severely
handicapped and would probably never talk or live an independent life. We couldn't
believe our ears, surely he had the wrong notes, got her mixed up with someone else,
please god let him be wrong. |
