Welcome to the Lancashire Seaside town of Cleveleys where along the
promenade you can enjoy the traditional seaside entertainment with amusement arcades
and bingo halls, or take the children to Kiddies Corner where they can have
hours of fun on all the mini adventure rides.
At nearby Jubilee Gardens
set sail on the boating lake, have a go at crazy golf, pitch and putt and
tennis, or simply relax and enjoy the outdoor entertainment.Shoppers
will be kept busy in Cleveleys with market stalls and street stores
stretching the length of the town. With plenty of bargains there is something
to suit all pockets. Many people, residents and holiday-makers alike, seeing the area
covered with modern bungalows and houses, believe it to have little history.
From a place mentioned in the Doomesday Book this is natural enough.
William the Conquerer surveyors recorded "Torenton". Cleveleys was
formerly called Ritherholm and that name almost certainly derived from
the rivulet that flowed into the sea there.
Accommodation is
plentiful with many hotels and guesthouses overlooking the sea, and with
Blackpool and Fleetwood only a five minute tram ride away,
Cleveleys is the ideal location for those who want to enjoy the bright lights
yet relax in a quieter enviroment.
Inland at Thornton, a historic windmill, Marsh
Mill, has been restored to its former glory. Visitors can take a
guided tour to the top of the mill or browse around the speciality shops in the
surrounding village. A popular tavern and tea-room are situated in the village
and colourful outdoor events such as steam rallies, circus acts, Punch and
Judy, dancing demonstrations and brass bands take place most weekends during
the summer.
For the
more relaxing day out, the Wyre Estuary
Country Park is the perfect venue. Explore the visitor
centre and learn about the surrounding countryside and wildlife, or enjoy
riverside walks, country picnics, birdwatching and beautiful
scenery. |
